How Michael Landsberg's Single Act Saved One Man from Suicide

I think that we often underestimate the impact we can have on the people around us. Clearly mental illness effects both men and women. However, men are less likely to seek help. This was one of the motivating factors for me to begin the process of writing a book by men for men. This book features countless stories of Saskatchewan men who are proud to put a voice and face to various issues of mental wellness. I want to share one of these stories with you. Tyson Williams picked a specific day to die by suicide. On that day,…

I Value My Son More Than Work

The book Born Resilient was released in December, and the cover featured our 6-year-old son, Malcolm. Ironically, 7 months later he was forced to put his own resilient nature to the test. In June, my wife and I discovered a large mass in Malcolm’s stomach. The situation progressed quickly, and we soon received a call to discuss our options with the surgeon. Unfortunately, the appointment fell on the morning of a speaking event. In 10 years, I never missed a single speaking event. I love my work, but I love my son more. With only three days before the event,…

Lane's Story: A Spiritual Connection

My story is unbelievable to most. In fact, I would have a hard time believing it if it had not happened to me. It was another typical school morning, and my partner, Shawna, was pulling out of our driveway with our four kids in the car. I didn’t know why, but I found myself running out the door, chasing after the car. The answer to my intuition that morning came less than fifteen minutes later.…

The Importance of Validating Others

One of my keynotes is titled “Removing the Mask”. Ironically, sometimes when I am on the stage I find myself having to wear a mask. I am human after all, and some days are harder than others. On one of these particularly challenging days I forced a smile as I shared my message at a large community event. Following my keynote I felt emotionally exhausted, and just wanted to be alone. However, there was a significant crowd that gathered at the bottom of the stage, and the mask had to stay on for a little longer. Eventually, the people disappeared,…

Discovering Our Achilles Heel

There have been several moments in my life where I felt invincible. However, this was always short-lived, and something would come along in life that would bring me to my knees. Whether this was through a physical illness, the hurtful words of another, or a critical mistake, these moments were always followed by a strong dose of humility. In Greek mythology, Achilles’ mother dipped his body into a magical river which provided powers of protection and invulnerability. However, because she held Achilles by the heel, it prevented the mystical water from covering this particular area. As a result, this became…
